The neighborhood
Lookout Mountain is where Chattanooga keeps its oldest money and its best views, and the two are usually in the same house. Homes along the brow were built by people who could choose anywhere and chose the edge of a cliff, which tells you something about the standard they expected. Many have been in the same family for generations.
Stone-and-timber estates, a lot of them eighty years old or more, sitting on awkward mountain lots with original detail worth keeping.

Almost nothing up here is a straight line. Foundations move with the rock, additions were bolted on across decades, and the original joinery was cut by hand. That rules out anyone working from a stock plan and a subcontractor list. It is the reason our work on the mountain tends to start as a remodel and turn into a restoration once we open the walls.
