The estates along Brow Road and through Fairyland were built when joinery was cut on site by hand, and a surprising amount of that work is still in place under later paint and later decisions. Stone, original timber, and the kind of detail nobody specifies anymore because nobody can price it.
James trained on heritage-listed homes and stone churches in Ireland and twelfth-century European castles before a decade of landmark restoration in Sydney. That background is the reason our instinct on this mountain is to keep and repair rather than tear out and replace. We are here to save these houses, not modernise them into anonymity.
