Signal Mountain is not a protected district, so the older houses here have been modernised at will, sometimes carefully and sometimes not. What survives tends to be behind something: original flooring under carpet, plaster detail under a dropped ceiling, a mantel boxed in during the seventies.
Our first job on a house like that is working out what is original and what is a previous owner's guess. We restore what is genuinely there rather than manufacture a period the house never had, which is a distinction the good ones on this ridge care about.
