At 5111 St. Elmo Avenue the new kitchen is two-tone, crisp white against deep charcoal, with brushed brass hardware and Carrara marble. It does not pretend to be Victorian, and it does not shout over the room that is. That balance is the whole job in a district like this.
Faking a period is the easiest way to ruin one of these houses. We build new joinery to furniture standards, in our own workshop, and let it be clearly of now while it sits comfortably beside work that is clearly of then.
